DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A defense lawyer is facing charges Saturday after he allegedly tried to smuggle drugs to his jailed client.
Sheriff’s deputies say Kenneth Markman, 47, tried to smuggle 26 balloons of heroin and methamphetamine to a gang member in custody at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Downtown L.A. Friday morning.
Markman was at the jailhouse to meet with his client when Narcotics team members, acting on a tip, sent in a drug sniffing dog to search his briefcase and person.
Small hypodermic needles and marijuana were also allegedly found inside Markman’s coat pocket.
The estimated value of the narcotics was listed at $30,000.
Markman is being held on $145,000 bail on charges including conspiracy to distribute drugs as well as transportation of drugs into a custody facility.
