Denton County Misdemeanor DWI Arrest Bond Conditions

The Denton County Criminal courts have initiated a new policy effective February 25, 2013 without advance notice to anyone. This new policy is applicable to all those with a pending Denton County DWI case and there is a blood or breath test with a result of a .15 BAC or over. All Denton County judges are requiring as a condition of bond (yes, prior to conviction or proof of the case) the installation of an Ignition Interlock on any vehicle the defendant drives. Although this is NOT required by Texas statute for a first offense, the judges are requiring the condition as a “reasonable condition of bond.” That is within their discretion. So much for innocent until proven guilty.
