The criminal justice system has a great amount of data that show when a youth enters the system, it is hard to keep them from continuing down that path.
Recently, Dallas County has created a system that aims to help youth who enter the criminal justice system at a young age. The Youthful Offender Division Court will help boy and girl offenders ages 10-13. The program will mainly be for first-time offenders and deals with both misdemeanor and felony cases.
This program is also aimed to get the parents involved and work through it as a family. The ultimate goal is to motivate the youth to achieve better and to keep them from pursuing a career as a criminal. It is a great idea to give these youth a second chance. What do you think?
